Yes, People of color DO need sunscreen...

First, I want it known that I believe that Everyone/Anyone can benefit from this blog (red, black, white, yellow, brown, whatev's, lol)...

It really annoys me each time a person makes the statement "I don't need sunscreen, I'm black" or "Black people need sunscreen?" I don't know whether to be totally annoyed or to be slightly amused. Yes, fellow person of color, and Yes, unknowing person of paleness, Everyone should use sunscreen, if expecting to have prolonged exposure to the sun...

Although I applied sunscreen, before getting into the water, I neglected to re-apply at some point, while enjoying the ocean for approximately 6 hours. As you can see, I have a little peeling on the nose and forehead, and now I sit writing this blog with sensitive shoulders and recently applied aloe vera ;)

So for all of my lovelies, I want to give you a few sites to look at, so that you can share with others the importance of protecting your skin and some tips on what to do, should you have a slightly losing battle with UVB/UVA rays. You will notice, there are some pretty awesome home remedies...

It's Ok to Say "Yes" to You...

Everyday, you go to work, whether it's at home or a long commute. You take care of your business. You take care of your family, from your parents, siblings, children and/or grandchildren. Everyone seems to get your attention, except you... Your body aches, from hours of working, tension from stress, and you can't think of the last time you had a peaceful night of rest. Your mind is constantly filled with a list of tasks, none of which include a moment for you. You're tired, but someone else has asked you to assist with a project, and/or you need to meal prep for the week for your family. You only go to the doctor, when you're making an appointment for someone else, once you've finished being both nurse and doctor to your loved ones. STOP!!! You can't go on like this! It's time to take care of yourself too. Why? Well, let's see: Decrease stress, which will also lead to, A healthier life/lifestyle (physical and mental) A sense of life fulfillment, includin...

Put Yourself In Time Out...

There's just something about koi ponds that makes me feel relaxed and have a sense of peace. Places such as this provide me with a nice little break from stressors and quiet time to calm the storm that is incessantly present in my brain... A Time Out According to Wikipedia, "Time-out is a form of behavioral modification that involves temporarily separating a person from an environment where unacceptable behavior has occurred." As adults, we get moody (ie, grumpy, snippy, attitudinal...), stressed, overwhelmed, etc. These are behaviors that are generally Un-Acceptable for/to the persons around you, especially the ones closest to you. So, today, I am going to play the virtual Mother and "sentence" you to a Time Out, Mister/Ma'am... For children, this means removing them from a pleasurable activity or environment, to give them time to "reflect" on what they have done to cause the consequence. For adults, this means to remove you from the en...

Spotted Vision...

I'm seeing spots everywhere, and I LIKE it! Anything different, spunky, and full of personality is totally in my sights, and right now, I'm loving polka dots. This look hit the runways this year with total fierceness, showing us new and innovative ways to wear this all but new pattern. Polka dots were seen in collections, including Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, and Dolce & Gabbana. Though I love these designers and their fashions, I'm here to talk about ways to incorporate this trend within your wardrobe without "breaking the bank". Of course, I will mention a couple of my fave discount stores, such as Dot's Fashions, Ross Stores and Marshalls (I saw the cutest polka-dot bubble shorts and skirt in Dot's today, fyi). Also, shop http://www.kmart.com/ , or visit a local store, for affordable fashions, including an awesome polka-dot bikini! If you're still in need of a polka-dot fix, then check out http://www.target.com/ and http://w...
